James V. Tomaska concentrates his practice in product liability, toxic tort, transportation and criminal defense. During the course of his career, Mr. Tomaska has successfully defended matters involving a variety of issues to both settlement and verdict.
Prior to joining Johnson & Bell, Mr. Tomaska was an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney as a member of the Criminal Appeals Division, the Narcotics Prosecutions Bureau, and the Preliminary Hearings and Felony Review Units. During the course of his career as a prosecutor, Mr. Tomaska participated in criminal investigations, and presented matters to the Cook County Special Grand Jury. In additional to successfully trying several cases to verdict, Mr. Tomaska has also participated in an oral argument before the First Distric Court of Appeals.
Mr. Tomaska has been selected as an “Illinois Rising Star” for 2010 – 2012. This honor features outstanding young lawyers in the state of Illinois who are under the age of 40 and have been practicing law for less than 10 years. He is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
